Introduction of the department
◎ Introduce our major
This department was established in 1971 with 30 students and has continued to develop and change so far, and as of 2019, it has contributed greatly to the development of Korean sports by training a number of competent physical education teachers and professional researchers and producing them across the country. In addition, this department focuses on securing and utilizing various experimental and practical equipment to carry out creative and continuous research activities, cultivating research and leadership skills on the theory and practice of physical education, as well as competent teachers and scholars in the field of physical education.
◎ What do we learn in our department?
The bachelor's course is based on a systematic understanding and application of general theories and teaching methods such as sports education, sports sociology, sports history, athletic mechanics, sports psychology, physical measurement evaluation, health education, and practical training. It also focuses on re-education of field school physical education leaders by further expanding and deepening the theoretical curriculum taught in the bachelor's course by operating master's and doctoral courses in graduate schools.
◎ What do we do when we graduate from our department?
At the same time as graduation, a secondary school level 2 teacher certificate is given, so if you pass the test exam to be a teacher, you can serve as a physical education teacher at middle and high schools at various levels. In addition, because living sports are emphasized in the recent modernized industrial society, you can establish and operate various sports centers by obtaining a second-degree life sports instructor license, and enter universities or research institutes after entering graduate school.
Examples of institutions that can be mainly employed in this department include universities (professor), middle and high schools (teachers), researchers, sports centers (sports for all), game leaders, coaches, and red cross (life rescuers). This department not only fosters students the knowledge and skills that they should have as excellent physical education teachers and professional athletes, but also helps students lead a healthy civic life by reasonably practicing physical education in their daily lives.
